Flights from Overseas:
The Falklands are easiest to reach from South America or the UK. LATAM Airlines offers a weekly flight from Santiago (via Punta Arenas). The UK Ministry of Defence Airbridge (AirTanker) runs two weekly flights from RAF Brize Norton to Mount Pleasant. 

All international flights land at Mount Pleasant Airport (MPN), 56 km from Stanley, where transfers should be pre-arranged. If cruising, confirm which part of the Falkland islands are on your itinerary.

Visas & Entry:
A valid passport is required. Most nationalities don’t need a visa, but check the latest Falkland Islands Government guidelines. Visitors must show a return ticket, proof of funds, and accommodation bookings. There is a departure tax, payable in Falkland pounds or major currencies.

Money & Communication:
The Falkland Islands pound (FKP) is equal to the British pound (UK£). British pounds are accepted, and US dollars and euros are widely used in Stanley. Credit/debit cards work in Stanley, but many outlying farms are cash-only (ATM available in Stanley). 

The local bank (Standard Chartered) is open 9–2. For communication, Sure provides phone and Internet services. Mobile roaming may work, or you can buy a Sure SIM. Wi-Fi is available in lodges and some spots in Stanley, but expect gaps outside towns.

Health & Safety:
The Islands have a high-quality hopsital in Stanley (KEMH). No special vaccines are needed. Visitors must pay for treatment, so travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is essential. 

Bring personal medications, as the pharmacy is limited. Tap water is safe to drink, and food standards are good. Insects are mostly midges – unpleasant but not dangerous. The Falklands were declared mine-free in 2020, but always follow safety signs and keep a safe distance from wildlife.

Packing Tips:
The weather is unpredictable, so pack warm layers, a windproof/waterproof jacket, sturdy hiking boots, and sunscreen. Even in summer, wind chill can be strong. Bring binoculars or a camera with a telephoto lens for wildlife viewing. Dress modestly, as accommodations are remote, and meals may be informal.

Electricity:
The islands use 240V, 50Hz, with UK-style 3-pin plugs. Bring an appropriate adapter if using non-UK devices.

Sustainability:
The Falklands are committed to conservation. Biosecurity measures may require cleaning gear/boots to prevent introducing non-native species. Tourists must respect wildlife laws, stay on paths, and avoid littering or feeding animals to help protect the environment.
