Situated on Fitzroy Farm, East Falkland, named after the barque Bertha shipwrecked in 1892, Bertha’s Beach is classified as an Important Bird Area, a global standard set by Birdlife International, and is a RAMSAR site. The beautiful white sand beach is home to Gentoo penguins, Magellanic penguins, South American terns, the endemic Falkland flightless steamer duck and ruddy-headed geese. Commerson’s and Peale’s dolphins are frequently seen and sealions may bask along the shore. Over eighty different plant species are recorded including five endemic.
This tour will take you towards the east coast of East Falkland. Home to approximately 500 pairs of Gentoo Penguins, these penguins are the second largest in the islands. You will be able to observe them in their natural habitat, feeding their young and dashing off to sea.
On return to Stanley, we will provide you with a short City Tour to show you the points of interest and offer advice on how to best spend the rest of your day according to your interests.
If you are from a cruise ship you are entitled to free entrance to the Historic Dockyard Museum, where you will find a fabulous over view of Falklands social, maritime and environmental history.
