Gypsy Cove – Situated within Cape Pembroke peninsula which is a National Nature Reserve , Gypsy Cove is the most accessible wildlife site from the capital city.

The small, sheltered bay with its white sand beach is the breeding site for Magellanic penguins, also known as Jackass because of their braying sounds.

Other birdlife includes black-crowned night-herons, oystercatchers, long-tailed meadowlark, two-banded plovers, Falklands flightless steamer duck, Upland and kelp geese. Sea lions and porpoises can occasionally be sighted.

Your guide will accompany you on the walk around the bay to nearby Ordnance Point where there are the remains of World War Two guns and great views of the outer harbour and entrance to Stanley Harbour with the colourful roofs of the town in the distance.

Recommended add-on: Continue to Yorke Bay to visit the Gentoo Penguins on the beautiful sands.

  • A wind proof jacket and suitable outdoor footwear is recommended and don’t forget a camera to capture the wildlife in action
  • A picnic lunch and beverages are included in this tour if it is pre-booked.
